Probably something is not accessible to a uid under which
amavisd is running. Likely candidates are the config file
and DKIM signing keys.
The best way to see the diagnostics is to start: amavisd debug
on one console, then issue: amavisd reload from another console
and observe the diagnostics in the first.
Apologies, Patrick's earlier reply was spot on, I replied but it went to
him rather than to the list as intended.
I'd changed the permissions of amavisd.conf to 640 as detailed in the
INSTALL document. Changing it back to 644 sorted it out and all is
working fine now.
