yes, it is, clamscan will timeout and worse, use up 100% of the cpu, so, you won't even be able to log in and work on it. we run a backup clamd scanner on a secondary box, listening to tcp, with the backup amavisd-virus scanner pointing to it.

Easy to do in 2.7, but can be done with 2.6* as well.

basically, call clamdscan cli, pointing to a second clamd.conf, which points to the backup clamd scanner.
