Yeah, amavis was written at a time when 100k was a large attachment.
Have people mostly moved on from amavis? What are the other options?
I've been using it almost from the beginning (2001?), but trying to do
more with it now, and it's not holding up.

malware should be detected by clamav or other AV.
filtering 30MB data with bayes may not be desirable.
however, I think that only textual data are parsed by SA, perhaps someone
may know more.
