Running amavis-2.13.0 (20230106) on Debian 12.10 with MariaDB backend.
The problem that I see is that the AWL table is properly updated with 
new entries, totscore column is calculated, but msgcount always 
remains 1 and never increments.

What are my options?

You have better chances on spamassassin-users to get answers to this 
question. msgcount, totscore and the AWL table are concepts of 
SpamAssassin, not Amavis.
