good point... thankyou so much for pushing me into the right direction!

TBH - after first reading I was like ... WTF?! :)

Later then I've tried several things ... and noticed that disabling the
spam-code bits (by enabling @bypass_spam_checks_maps = (1)) made the issues go away... ... and seconds later the real culprit was tracked down - to my own custom written spamassassin module with 'diagnostics' turned on.
