ahh, my protasis! I go by the name of Lindsay Perth. I am a Canadian living and working in Scotland for 16 ( already?) years, although consider myself in constant flux about my cultural identity. Depends if I wake up to peanut butter and toast or porridge really. Today I feel more Scottish.
I am an artist who jumps onto various islands of practice but predominantly I am concerned with new media, or digital based/orientated work whether it take the form of performance, net.art, screen-based work, installation and projects which involve working in collaboration with communities/public, curating, etc One aspect of my practice is designing, producing and facilitating digital arts projects, over the past 2-3 years achieved through galleries such as Stills Gallery. Recently, through the support of Street Level Gallery and New Media Scotland I had a Year of the Artist Residency where I created an online urban environment in VRML, designed in collaboration with 4 truant young people from Glasgow. I also teach at galleries and art colleges, do some web design, cdrom stuff, recently a little consultancy...basically like many of you, I got me a hat shop in my closet. Oh, and last year, I worked with New Media Scotland as producer/facilitator for their digital commissions. I have to say I am glad to see ambit up and running. Currently, one of my projects is curating a new media programme for Mediarama, a new media arts festival in Seville in November of this year. I still try to find time to write that best seller, win the Booker and retire on my millions to Skye and just THINK. thats it really. Looking forward to discussions...
