Hello everyone. Apologies - unwittingly we seem to have created a feedback loop.
Please, can I ask you to stop responding to the test message. It seems the list is working well: TOO well in fact! Just a quick technical note: if you hit Reply to someone's message, the reply will automatically go back to the list. If this is not what you want to do, please just reply to the person you want to talk to by sending e-mail to their address. Good to see people participating though! Perhaps it will be more meaningful if people would like to introduce themselves, as Mike Stubbs and Chris Dooks have already done. Then, once we know who is 'around the table' as it were, maybe we can begin discussions? A wee reminder of one suggested topic for this month: Sites/locations for making and showing work Angus Digital Media Centre opened earlier this month, boasting state of the art facilities. The new CCA opens in Glasgow in 15 days' time, billed as Scotland's first 'wired' exhibition and performance space. Public access digital facilities have been established at Stills in Edinburgh, Peacock in Aberdeen, Street Level and G-MAC in Glasgow. Specialised facilities exist at the Visual Research Centre at Dundee Contemporary Arts. What impact do site or location have on artists' practise with media technologies? Does the existence of these centres make a difference to how and what artists choose to make or show? Comments welcome. Holger has raised the issue of financial or legal constraints on artists' practice. This brings up a host of issues about the type of practice we engage in and why. Care to elaborate Holger? Did you have a specific example in mind?
