Perhaps net.art needs its Rosalind Krauss .... "net.art in the expanded
field" or "art in the expanded network".
Simon's reference to Krauss is an apt one. The Greimiesian
'logic' of the possible expansions of a particular part of a
topologically continuous media field could be applied to net.art.
However, though the both/and is infinitely richer than the either/or,
I would ask at what point does the expansion saturate itself by
prefiguring infintesimally small intervals between specific fields,
leaving not a bouillabaisse but a clear broth? Indeed, in a 4th year
class I am developing at Strathclyde's department of architecture, we
will be looking at Krauss' seminal essay vis-a-vis what I have
labelled Performative Archictecture which looks at both the
network/range/array of possible modi operandi which might include
discontinuous, atopological media, probably a more Performance
Art based thinking, in architectural 'produce' as well as
irreducible, dense entities. What are the other criteria of the THEN
in: IF an art 'form' sits next to another in Krauss'/Greimas'
diagram, THEN expand to a third term; i.e., besides contiguity as a
precurser to expansion, what are other criteria which would stop the
expansion because it would be better to?
