I have heard that name... he co-edited a really useful anthology
called"Multimedia: from Wagner to Virtual Reality" . all yer old faves-
billy kuyper(?) vannevar Bush, the palo alto Xerox PARC people, roy ascott
etc .

here's an extension of the idea of network which I find really
interesting.....

"Art Resaux's 'Connect' was led by group member Gilberto Prado and is
typical of their approach. Several international locations are linked via
fax connections, each location having two fax machines, one receiving, the
other sending. The two machines are linked by a single roll of paper which
constantly emerges from the receiver and tracks down a long table before
being consumed by the sending system. While on the table, participants add
to the content with drawing materials and collage. The piece is a complete
loop which simultaneously connects all participants regardless of the
geographical location. The long fax 'scrolls' that emerged were exhibited at
the Art Reseaux exhibition at the Gallerie Bernanos in Paris in April 1992.
Each long scroll was suspended from the ceiling forcing the viewer to walk
along below and stare upward as they walked."

from,"Networks and Artworks: the failure of the user friendly interface" by
Paul Brown, in Intelligent Tutoring Media October 1996

I like the use of the network with the idea of a real time real place and
real people.
In fact I'm quite interested in the possibilities of taking developments in
real-time image transmission and producing something like a japanese
panoramic scroll of a real-time journey...
watch this space. anyone interested in the ghost of Albert Hitchcock and the
net as used by Lars von Trier might like to go to teenage airshow on my web
pages and scroll around till you get to the Sabena logo...
