Art at LSE OUT OF THE ARCHIVES - film screening Do you really want it that much? ...More! Volker Eichelmann, Jonathan Faiers, Roland Rust. You are invited to a screening of Do you really want it that much? ...More! 24 January, Vera Anstey Room (Old Building, Houghton St, LSE) 6.00pm Volker Eichelmann will introduce the film and discuss the project with Ruth Maclennan, artist-in-residence in the Library Archives at LSE. All are welcome. Do you really want it that much?...More! consists of the collection, assembly and presentation of sequences from mainstream film and television programmes that depict museums, galleries and other art spaces, artistic production and art criticism. These often brief sequences are contained within the overall narrative structure of films and are then isolated and re-assembled to construct alternative narratives: video assemblages that present endless formulations of the art space. As with the conventional or official archive, the material is already in the public domain on television, in cinemas and on video. Once captured on video it can be re-categorised and reinterpreted allowing the material to elude any fixed presentation or interpretation. The archive has existed since 1998 when Eichelmann, Faiers and Rust collaborated on the first Do you really want it that much?...More! installation. But, the archive's potential has existed since the inception of film itself and specifically since the advent of the home video recorder. The artists' individual cinematic knowledge and memories come together in their collaborative projects and it is here that the practice can be most closely associated with the act of self-archiving: each contributing his own personal experience of films to the specific production of Do you really want it that much?...More! http://www.doyou.at/page.html/. The event is the first in a series of talks and presentations by artists entitled Out of the Archives organised and hosted by Ruth Maclennan. The aim of the series is to have a discussion between artists, archivists, LSE academics and students, of themes raised by the artists' understanding of archives in relation to their art practice. Future events: Wednesday 27 February - Richard Wentworth Wednesday 13 March - David Mabb Thursday 16 May - Monica Ross All talks take place in the Vera Anstey room, and begin at 6pm For more information on the residency or Art at LSE, please contact Ben Eastop at <<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or Ruth Maclennan at <<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
