DOING TIME Burning Bush 2

10th - 12th May 2002

In this very instantaneous moment of our contemporary life of clocks we can
only lose or gain twenty-four hours of time. Twenty-four hours is the limit
to the forwards or backwards movement of time. This is the 'real' basis of
contemporary life, and it underwrites our understanding of work,
retirement, unemployment and leisure. 'Doing Time' is a serious matter,
because we all do it, because it raises urgent questions about democracy,
and our humanity.

'Burning Bush 2 - Doing Time' consists of a gathering of artists and
researchers who have responded to what the concept of time and work might
now mean to people at the start of the 21st century. It is an event that is
about 'politics,' about history, about employment and about what people
actually do with their time between waking up and falling asleep each day,
and in what kind of environments they do this.

>From fusions of art and business to cyber-skiving, this exciting project
features new work by 15 UK and international artists including New York's
Coco Fusco, Paul Rooney and the FANCLUB collective.

Doing Time is a Burning Bush project in partnership with Generator
Projects, University of Dundee's Cooper Gallery, Visual Research Centre,
Dundee Contemporary Arts, New Media Scotland.
