Potter Concert 16th May, 7.00pm Free Admission Performance by Bert Jansch Bert Jansch the Glasgow born virtuoso acoustic guitarist and songwriter emerged from the 1960s underground folk scene, both as solo artist and member of the group Pentangle . Dubbed the Hendrix of the electric guitar by Neil Young, over the last 30 years his unique musical style has influenced generations of great musicians, from Jimmy Page and Nick Drake to Johnny Marr. Recently he received a lifetime award at the Radio 2 Folk Awards. Lecture 1st June, 2.00pm Free Admission A talk by Russell A. Potter In 1978 Russell Potter founded Black Snake Records, releasing two LPs of his own solo guitar compositions and a punk/bluegrass 45 single. He also hosted a weekly radio show Roots n Rap and in the early 90s was a contributing editor for the hip-hop e-zine HardC.O.R.E (later known as Headz Up). Since completing Spectacular Vernaculars: Hip-Hop and the Politics of Postmodernism he has contributed to numerous books on music. He is Associate Professor of English at Rhode Island College lecturing on subjects ranging from Victorian Visual Culture to the history of the Canadian Arctic.
