There's quite a lot to respond to here, I'm not going to attempt it all here.

I would make the observation that there have been concerns expressed 
by a number of people on the list about CCA - whether it's because of 
this event specifically or for other reasons. Graham's suggestion of 
constructive dialogue seems a good one - maybe we ought to take him 
up on this?
