ange TAGGART presents:
Shop-u-like? A presentation of counter-cultural
shopping patterns.
"Glasgow the largest and best retail centre in the UK
outside of London"
In the run up to ADBUSTERS 'Buy Nothing Day 2002' what
better place to talk about the new global
counter-cultural approach to 'shopping' as
demonstrated by groups such as Whirl-Mart, Fanclub,
Space Hijackers and Rev Billy.
Ange Taggart is a recipient of the Artsadmin Artists'
Bursary Scheme 2002,and one of the founding members of
FANCLUB, best known in the culture-jamming world for
their global shopping actions and performances
critical of consumerism and surveillance culture.
FANCLUB emerged out of what was essentially a
collaborative strategy for survival between two
artists Ange Taggart and Philip Ryder. Working with
store returns policies became an integral feature of
their work as well as a handy way of gaining
unofficial arts sponsorship.
