market presents an exhibition celebrating the breadth of contemporary art
practice now emerging from Glasgows East End. Call for entry features 8
selected artists at various stages in their careers, showing together for
the first time. They utilise a range of approaches and mediums from lithography
to video and sound works.

Stuart Murray has lived in Dennistoun all his life and makes strange, funny and
often poignant portraits of local people he has met. Most of the other
exhibiting artists have been drawn to live and work in the East ! End for
social and economic reasons.

Sally Chapmans video works resound with subtle reflections on transitory
moments, offsetting Calum Stirlings captured footage of youthful anarchy and
Mick Peters oddly oversized Ejector Seat.

Paintings by Guyan John Porter and Adinda vant Kloosters Symphonic Body Box
are engagingly meditative. Cathy Richmond and Norma Thallon show sculptures and
photographs that reveal part of a greater story.

Call for entry is a show crammed full of surprises. The vibrant East End arts
community seldom has had as good an opportunity to come together as in this
exhibition.

market has been undergoing a period of redevelopment and refurbishment leading
up to the launch of the new programme for 2003/4. This is the first exhibition
to take place this year and is accompanied by an outreach project with East End
Respite Carers.
