Is this an arty joke? In that the list is set up to limit choice now these 2 buttons on my email client do the same both go to the list. Well, there are differing opinions on this, as your quote showed. I'm on a number of lists, some have 'Reply to' set to the list, some have it set to the originator. The problem is, if you choose the latter path, often mail clients add the list to CC: field. So unless people are vigilant, the list still ends up with a lot of 'tofu' as you succinctly put it. We did discuss this when setting up the list: I argued in favour of 'Reply to list' as it seemed a more elegant solution for a list which is supposed to be about discussion. It does require people to think before hitting 'reply' though...
