Lawrence Lessig is a legal theorist and lawyer who is an advocate of open
software development and anti-copyright.  He was active in the legal
battles against the Microsoft monopoly. 

His "Free Culture" speech from last years "Open Source Convention" is a
decent enough intro to his ideas and the ethical value of open,
collaborative practice:
