It might interest <ambit> people that one of the works in this edition of CTHEORY Multimedia, HALBEATH by Japanese artist Takuji Kogo (from candyfactory) in collaboration with Korean artist YOUNG-HAE CHANG HEAVY INDUSTRIES, takes as its focal point the still-abandoned Hyundai/Motorola factory at Halbeath, near Dunfermline.

Takuji developed the idea and took stills of the factory whilst undertaking a residency last year at the New Media Scotland offices in Edinburgh, part of the Art in the Home project where artists made work for showing in people's homes around Edinburgh. The other work he made is here: http://host.mediascot.org/candyfactory

We hope to organise a showing of HALBEATH in Scotland at some point, possibly late this year or early next. I'll post details to <ambit> in due course...

Issue 4: Net Noise

On Line, July 2003: http://ctheorymultimedia.cornell.edu

The Curators of CTHEORY Multimedia, Arthur and Marilouise Kroker & Timothy
Murray, announce the release of Issue 4, NET NOISE, 11 net art pieces,
published in conjunction with the Cornell University Library?s Electronic
Publishing Program.

Imagine the manifold soundings of art on the Net. Listen to what's
happening when CTHEORY morphs into CSOUND. Then enter the zone of CTHEORY
MULTIMEDIA coming of age on the horizon of NET NOISE. A sound of wireless
motion and dark noise. The surging sound of coding,
network streaming and file-surfing. The almost undetectable whispers of
splicing, mixing and mutating noise into a brilliant tattoo on the skin of
the digital. What happens when sound resonates images with such intensity
that art shudders, finds itself wandering in a spectral space not of its
own making?

What happens when the net hears murmurs of strange new codes and suddenly
opens up into a new electronic universe, speaking the vernacular of sounds
recombinant fit for speed travel across the crystal palaces of the image
matrix? What happens when the pitch and sigh of digital noise envelopes and
expresses the complexity of decaying material culture and corporeal politics?

Tracking and coding the currents of sound in digital culture, NET NOISE
presents works by Akuvido, Simon Biggs, YOUNG-HAE CHANG HEAVY INDUSTRIES,
Shu Lea Cheang, Takuji Kogo (Candy Factory), Christina McPhee, MEZ, Plasma
Studii, Michal Sellam, Zvonka Simcic, Tanja Vujinovic, Jody Zellen.
