hi,

as Tim Nunn wrote Chris has asked me (two times) to do an introduction =
to the list - and I have been 'lurking' for a while, too. so it is about =
time for me, too.

I have learned about the list through our "backup_festival" and through =
last years project "backup.lounge|lab" - some of our participants are =
members of the list.

together with Marc Olff I do the board and concept of the =
"backup_festival. new media in film" since 1999 at weimar/germany.
please have a look at our web site www.backup-festival.com

we are students for media design at the bauhaus university of weimar. we =
and our colleagues are working multidisciplinary, with a lot of =
practice, mainly with video, dvd, internet (but also with film, photo, =
graphic design, product design, architecture).=20
Marc Olff is directing an producing music videos and short films with =
his company "sonnendeck_tv" (www.sonnendeck.tv)=20
there were reasons and motivations enough for us to organize the =
backup_festival.=20
we wanted to create a platform for the investigation of the convergence =
of new media and the medium of film.

with the backup.lounge|lab we want to investigate collaborative forms of =
work between artists in all disciplines.
based on the theory of "open source" the aim is to create artistic works =
that are able to display the act of collaboration, the melting into one =
another and overlapping as a continuous process. the invited =
participants put a continual recontextualization of the spatial =
structures into motion.
we think it is an interesting addendum for the festival and for our =
focus on 'screen presentation' and the cinema situation in the context =
of our international "backup.award".

at the moment we received a lot of entries for this year's festival. the =
call for entries was over on the 16th of august.
the thematic starting point of this year's .lounge|lab is "Testing Truth =
- XOR" (the metaphoric quality of binary code).

because of all these activities and ideas I wanted to learn more about =
your 'ambit', too. and I wanted to provide information about us and =
wanted to discuss them. that's why I joined the list.

and something more about me - before I started my studies at the bauhaus =
university I was working for seven years as an executive producer and =
later as a producer for theatre, video and for festivals.=20
