Hi,

I’ve been asked to make this list a friendlier place by introducing myself.

My name is Jim Hamlyn, I'm an artist and co-leader of Convergent Media (
with Colin Andrews) at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. I also teach one day a week on
the Fine Art Photography course at Glasgow School of Art.

Before I go back to lurking I’d like to take this opportunity to invite you all to the
Opening of Magnetic North at Peacock Visual Arts, Aberdeen:

Info about Magnetic North:
Magnetic North is a survey exhibition of electronic art selected from the
Scottish Degree Shows by Colin Andrews and Jim Hamlyn. Drawing together a
rich variety of work from an international gathering of artists, Magnetic
North serves as a benchmark of the diversity and exceptional quality of work
being made at the Scottish Art Schools.

Including work by the controversial Alistair Wight (who caused consternation
at the Royal Scottish Academy recently when he presented a large digital
print detailing information and images about the exhibition judges), and
Willow Tyrer (winner of the "Best in Show Award" at the Design and Art
Direction Awards, London 2003), Magnetic North promises to be an engaging
and inspiring insight into the field of new media art.

As the first exhibition of its kind in Scotland, Magnetic North is already
gaining interest from individuals and institutions both nationally and
internationally. New Media Scotland is pleased to be able to take advantage
of the exhibition as an opportunity to select and award their new 3Host2
prize, as are Stills who will award one residency prize and it is expected
that Magnetic North will become an important annual event.
