Invitation to Edinburgh Flash Crowd ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----
This is in invitation to take part in Scotlands first Flash Crowd which will be in Edinburgh on 28th August. A Flash Crowd is an inexplicable gathering of people for a very short period of time. The crowd converges simultaneously, seemingly out of nowhere, carries out a totally meaningless activity and disperses just as quickly leaving bystanders bemused and wondering what happened. Be sure to foward this note to as many people as possible who may like to join in. If you would like to know more about Flash Crowds surf over to http://www.flashcrowds.com for a description of other Flash Crowd events and links to other sites. (1) At some point during the day on Thursday August 28th synchronise your watch by using the speaking clock (dial 123 from a land line) or one of the following websites :- http://www.britishsummertime.com/ or http://www.timeticker.com/main.htm (2) You should stroll past one of the following four locations, based on your month of birth, between 5:15pm and 5:30pm. You should see a Flash Crowd representative at each of these locations between these times. He or she can be identified by a white shirt and a red cap. Make yourself known to the representative by saying 'I am here for the Flash' and you will be given a slip of paper with final instructions. Otherwise act casual and try not to draw attention to yourself. January, February, March At the big fountain in the park at the west end of Princes street. Read the instructions carefully and then hide it. Under no circumstances should the instructions be visible when the crowd meets or left at the site. (4) The instructions will provide the location of the Flash Crowd site. The time of the Flash Crowd is between 5:37pm and 5:47. You will need no more than five minutes to get from your meeting place to the site of the Flash Crowd. Get there PRECISELY at 5:37pm, not a minute before or a minute later. This is critical to the success of the Flash Crowd. If you risk getting there early dawdle and look in the many shops that are in the area. If you are late hurry! although no one will need to rush. (5) Everything you need to know, where to be, what to do or say will be in the instructions you are given by the Flash Crowd representative. Most importantly the Flash Crowd site must be empty of participants by 5:47pm. This is as important to a successful Flash Crowd as the arrival. Everyone should leave as quickly and as orderly as they can and disperse. (6) After the Flash Crowd, carry on with your lives as normal, await instructions for Flash Crowd #2 (7) At all times remember that a Crowd is just fun.
