E m e r g e D : present www.emerged.net [shift] : call to artists working across disciplines to take part in a Leeds based art project examining what lies beneath the everyday city. Applications especially
encouraged from artists living, working, studying or born/educated in

to help with the running of the project. This will be an excellent
opportunity to build networks and experience. More details : [shift] aims to encompass a breadth of mediums to enable it to reach out beyond the physical location of the unit within the Merrion Superstore and move further in to the consciousness of the city centre. The first two weeks of the
project will be ‘Process Lab’. This will be an opportunity for the
users of the Merrion Superstore, the general public, artists and
students to come and start to familiarise themselves with [shift] and
the concepts behind it. There will be an office and educational area
where people can come and read, ask questions and observe the mechanics
of putting an art project together. Artists’ talks and events will be
programmed in to these two weeks. There will also be artists making
work in the space. The main focus of [shift]
will be in unit 60-63 in the Merrion Superstore between Saturday 27th
March – Saturday 3rd April 2004. The unit will house Alongside the show within the unit will be a publication and city centre interventions: Re-configuring the
traditional concept of the exhibition catalogue, the publication will
reflect the diverse nature of artistic responses to the city and offer
a more inquisitive standpoint from which to disseminate information
about the [shift] project. Proposals are also
encouraged for work that takes place or exists outside the unit, in the
city centre, exploring the public spaces through a variety of methods
including performance, dance, live art, audio,web etc.
Programming of this area of the project will remain loose to encourage
a more organic approach to working in the city centre. [shift] is an E m e r g e D project. E m e r g e D is a not-for-profit arts organisation, originally established in Glasgow, Scotland. We work with emerging artists across a broad range of disciplines making site-specific work in orphaned sites.
