More details :

[shift] aims to encompass a breadth of mediums to enable it to reach out beyond the physical location of the unit within the Merrion Superstore and move further in to the consciousness of the city centre.

The first two weeks of the project will be ‘Process Lab’. This will be an opportunity for the users of the Merrion Superstore, the general public, artists and students to come and start to familiarise themselves with [shift] and the concepts behind it. There will be an office and educational area where people can come and read, ask questions and observe the mechanics of putting an art project together. Artists’ talks and events will be programmed in to these two weeks. There will also be artists making work in the space.

Submissions are encouraged which make the best of this extended access to the space to develop process-based works.

The main focus of [shift] will be in unit 60-63 in the Merrion Superstore between Saturday 27th March – Saturday 3rd April 2004. The unit will house
a site-orientated exhibition.

Submissions are sought from artists wishing to make work that responds directly to the unit, the superstore and the Merrion Centre. :

Alongside the show within the unit will be a publication and city centre interventions:

Re-configuring the traditional concept of the exhibition catalogue, the publication will reflect the diverse nature of artistic responses to the city and offer a more inquisitive standpoint from which to disseminate information about the [shift] project.

Proposals are sought from artists/designers whose work is suitable for print as well as creative writers and academics that investigate the city in their work.

Proposals are also encouraged for work that takes place or exists outside the unit, in the city centre, exploring the public spaces through a variety of methods including performance, dance, live art, audio, web etc. Programming of this area of the project will remain loose to encourage a more organic approach to working in the city centre.

Funding is being sought and the outcome of this may affect the final project. Assistance with invigilation of the unit and general organisation may be required of selected artists.

[shift] is an E m e r g e D project. E m e r g e D is a not-for-profit arts organisation, originally established in Glasgow, Scotland. We work with emerging artists across a broad range of disciplines making site-specific work in orphaned sites. For more information and to see past projects and events visit www.emerged.net
