Do works of art inspired by new scientific insights into genetics explore
the posthuman condition? Do biomedical science and genetics have a similar
relative impact on contemporary art to that of anatomy during the
Renaissance? What are the implications for artists using DNA and
genetically modified organisms as their media of choice? How do we view
today's alliances of science and art? The Symposium will aim to address
these issues, and unravel the aesthetics, ethics and future of biosciences.

GAIR DUNLOP, Glasgow - artist
WARREN NEIDICH, New York - founder of the field of Neuroaesthetics and an
artist-in-residence at Goldsmiths College, London
JENS HAUSER, Paris-based independent curator, writer, and artist. Author of
L'Art Biotech, the first festival of biotechnological living art
STEVE KURTZ, Buffalo - founding member of Critical Art Ensemble - an
artists' collective dedicated to exploring the intersection between art,
technology, politics and critical theory
BERGIT ARENDS, London - sciart Programme Curator, Exhibitions Department,
The Wellcome Trust. Co-editor of Experiment: Conversations in Art and
Science
ALAN BLEAKLEY, Penzance - Author of books on the psychology of imagination.
Currently exploring the aesthetics of medical practice. Lecturer at
Peninsula Medical School, Universities of Exeter and Plymouth and Royal
Cornwall Hospital, Truro
BRONAC FERRAN, London - Director of Interdisciplinary Arts, Arts Council
England and responsible for the Art & Science Fellowships initiative
KEITH SKENE, Dundee - Biologist and Lecturer at University of Dundee
exploring patterns of organisation at different levels of life, from DNA to
planetary super-organisms
