OUROBOROS: The Music of the Spheres

Panel Discussion with John Calcutt (curator),

John Brown (astronomer) & Artist David Alker

Tuesday 13th April 2004, 7:00pm CCA: 4 FREE but ticketed

Ouroboros is the snake that devours its own tail, and ancient symbol of the recurrent cycle of creativity, destruction, and renewal. CCA’s Ouroboros exhibition invites various connections and projections: from spiral record grooves, to Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty, to spiral galaxies.  From revolving turntables, to the spinning earth, to orbiting satellites.  From scratched vinyl, to geological erosion, to the dust rings of Saturn.  From decaying material, to the precision of high technology.     From Ouroboros to the Music of the Spheres.

Ouroboros curator John Calcutt, discusses the concepts behind the exhibition with John Brown (Regius Professor of Astronomy and Astronomer Royal for Scotland) and artist David Alker.
