The site will develop over the coming months to finally present two short digital films. One is based on the cultural differences between a thrash metal band in the US and a similar band in the UK; the other is a fictional diary of Christopher Columbus in a modern Scotland.

The site uses a series of juxtaposed ideas, texts, source materials, graphics and video materials. These include stills derived from The Wooster Group performances: To You, The Birdie, House/Lights and Brace Up!; an endless copy poster by Felix Gonzalez Torres from the SuperNova show at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, objects from the artist Jana Sterbak, video footage and installations by the video artist Tony Oursler; a Tom of Finland t-shirt and references to the Piss Flower installations by Helen Chadwick. All of this material is combined to create a research based series of social and antisocial activities, exploring among other things a notion of worth. The material extends some of the ideas from the films, but the web site operates as a separate entity. The site will be updated with new material on a regular basis.

theantimattersalon.com was devised by the artist Alex Hetherington. His recent work includes the short film and web project Glasgowland, commissioned by Mesh for Channel 4, which is showing at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2004, at the LA International Short Film Festival and at File 2004, Sao Paulo Brazil, and previously at the show Memory, Salina Art Center, Kansas, US and the installation The Fictitious On Kawara shown at Emerged [chronicler], Glasgow, 2004.
