NICEDISC :

Nicedisc is the New York-based laptop audiovideo duo of Jeff Pash and Nick Phillips. Originally working with live soundtracks to 16mm film projects from 1999 to 2001, Pash and Phillips moved to live laptop-based audio and video performance tools in 2002 in order to explore the new digital possibilities of video as a performative medium. Their early work, featured on Antiopics Allegorical Power Series and tested live in an extensive U.S. tour of 2002, focused on black-and-white primitivism, exploring the extremes of video pixellation and audio distortion. Their most recent work, featured on their debut DVD Untitled (Rebuild All Your Ruins 2004), moves to the opposite extreme, building from the work of the 1960s structuralist film school to offer an extended investigation on audiovisual minimalism.

Recent Reviews:

"Really the thing about this whole affair is that it is a DVD release of considerable effort instead of some home-laptop CD-R improvisation late-night kind of thing. Im getting some definite art-gallery vibes but nothing that shouldnt sway the more adventurous of you from spending a night in, in front of the TV just drooling over these repetitive light/sound studies"
-Keith Fullerton Whitman

"A bleak post-Industrial euphoria honed into a surgical instrument."
- Matt Ffytche, The Wire, June 2004.

"The flickering may be difficult for some to enjoy, but for those that do, the phrase "light is energy" sounds less like a simple physical explanation, or a high-minded metaphor, but rather a description of the pleasure gained from the throb of flashing lights against the eyes."
-Nirav Soni. Bagatellen, July 2004

michael RODGERS:

We're Breaking Up is the electronics project of Michael Rodgers. Melting channels on his mixing desk have prompted some reconsideration of sound sources, but the approach to the music remains the same.

Michael is a multi-instrumentalist who played in punk bands in Memphis before getting involved with free improvisation. Living in London since 2000, he brings a sense of urgency and openness to many musical combinations.

Ongoing projects include Broken Hands (guitar duo with Anthony Guerra), We're Breaking Up (solo electronics), and has collaborated with Paul Hood, Nishide Takehiro, Dion Workman, Barry Weisblat, Margarida Garcia, Pedro Loureno, and others. Performances include Freedom of the City (London), Musica Ex Machina (Bilbao), and London's first Placard Headphone Festival. Michael's published recordings include cds by the groups Broken Hands, We're Breaking Up and Neutral Density Trio. In November 2003 We're Breaking Up contributed a track entitled 'Receiver 1' for New York-based Antiopic label, as part of their Allegorical Power Series. 'Receiver 2' is included in the Resonant Cities programme of 2004's Drift Festival in Scotland.

Michael is also co-founder (with Anthony Guerra) of London-Sydney label TwoThousandAnd, documenting the development of an international community of musicians.
