PAVILION: INTERMIX04 3rd - 5th NOVEMBER 2004

Background

Pavilion is a Leeds based company with twenty years experience of engaging with the visual arts and primarily engages with photography and photography-related new media including artist’s film and video. It investigates the relationship between media art product, the public realm, audience and the social context in which it is generated, showcased and understood. Pavilion is interested in challenging practitioners and thinkers to push the boundaries of their own practice, and keen to disseminate critical understanding of the resulting product and ephemera through proactive discussion, debate and engagement with its audiences.

Intermix is Pavilion’s annual programme of artist’s film & video, showcased as a continuous loop during the Leeds International Film Festival.   The programme features work made by established and emerging artists from the UK and abroad.   In 2004, the programme will be programmed by Pavilion’s Artistic Director and Projects Manager.

Context & Brief Overview

As one of the fastest growing cities in the UK, Leeds enjoys a buoyant economy and is often referred to as the regional capital of Yorkshire and Humberside.   With this growth comes the creation of jobs, a spectacular rise of city centre living accommodation, bars, restaurants and other sites for social interaction.  All this makes for a fast paced, hectic city lifestyle.

With this in mind Pavilion is looking to present a respite to the city, a place to contemplate and relax during the lunch hour or in between shopping. The selection of artists’ films and videos will examine and interrogate the theme of Human Presence; this may be within the city environment or beyond. We are looking for works that can be shown on a single screen, as part of a show reel.

Currently the funding for Intermix04 means that we can not offer a fee for showing works. However, we can offer profile for the selected works which will be shown within the context of a well established film festival and be presented to the public through professional marketing and promotion.

To submit video/films for selection please send your work on DVD (no other format will be accepted), along with a CV and a brief (100 word) statement about the work you are submitting to:
