GRASSROOTS organic

This september will see the conclusion of </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>[vsf]</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>, the highly respected and influentional site specific art project housed in the </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>E</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> m e r g e </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>D</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> vacant shop front, Woodlands Road, Glasgow.

</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>E</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> m e r g e </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>D </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>have been using the space for continuous exhibitions since December 2002, meaning over 80 artists will have exhibited in the shop front by September 2004. The contributing artists' work is archived on the </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>E</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> m e r g e </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>D </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>website in the [vsf] section http://www.itchyfingers.org/emerged/vsf/vsf.htm

In recognition of the end of the project, </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>[vsf] </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>will host three final events this September, an installation by david </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>STAMP</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>, a screening of site specific work by steven </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>DICKIE</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> and a final gathering of all the artists who have been involved in the project since it's inception.

</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>12th – 24th September 2004</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>

david </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>STAMP</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>

</x-tad-smaller>

<x-tad-smaller>Glasgow based artist david </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>STAMP</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> exhibits </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>Fördömda Kanin</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> , a misconstruction of Ikea furniture to make lethal traps, in the </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>[vsf]</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>.

</x-tad-smaller>

<x-tad-smaller>The installation is part of a series of </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>STAMP</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>'s work based around Wiseman - an uber armchair survivalist and confronts issues of self-sufficiency, survival, the beginning of culture and a sense of loss experience by us as a whole. Taking the SAS Survival Handbook as a guide in </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>Fördömda Kanin </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>(a swedish translation of 'Pesky Rabbit') </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>STAMP</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> reconfigures number of pieces of IKEA furniture into animal traps. Shelving units are spring loaded and wardrobes set to crush if disturbed in an effort to form a deadly environment. The products of IKEA are a mass produced symbol of modern living that come with well illustrated assembly instruction, by replacing these instructions with others the installation is a comic subversion and a farcical preparation for the unknown.

</x-tad-smaller>

<x-tad-smaller>Fördömda Kanin and Wiseman are part of a larger research undertaken into the significance placed on events, the transition from one off happening to culture phenomena and the mankind's cognition of the nature world.

<x-tad-smaller>STAMP</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> graduated form Duncan of Jordanstone of Art (Dundee) in 2000. Now based in Glasgow,
he was short-listed for residency at Nordiska Akvarellmuseet (Sweden) in 2003. Recent exhibitions
include The KevinSpacey Show (GIS, Glasgow) and The Reading Room (Sherborne House, Dorset).
He’s also a committee member at Market Gallery.

steven</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> DICKIE

</x-tad-smaller>
<x-tad-smaller>A one night screening of</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> ‘Photophonic’</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>, a site specific installation by steven </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>DICKIE</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>.
25th September 2004 from 8pm-9pm
Followed by drinks and band (Shit Disco) at The Holt bar (Woodlands Rd) from 9pm-11pm</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>

</x-tad-smaller>
<x-tad-smaller>In a gesture of completion, the final exhibition in </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>[vsf] </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>is to be a encore of the first. </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>'Photophonic'</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>, steven </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>DICKIE</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>'s
abstracted, but physical interpretation of the vacant shop front space will be shown for one night only on the 25th
September 2004. The installation is a response to the shop front, a space that restricts the audience's interaction
as it is not directly accessible and can only be viewed via the window. </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>DICKIE</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> breeches the barrier between inside and
outside, with a reconfiguration of the shop front in image and sound that are shown together in the form of animation,
projected from inside the space onto the window in an attempt to break down it's prior function.

</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>DICKIE</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>'s work is in response to the surmise the developed world we have technology everywhere which has resulted in
the globe being encompassed in information and sound. Each component in electrical devices emits high frequencies that
are beyond our hearing range. </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>DICKIE</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> deals in sound because he believes it is inadvertently it appears that it is the greatest
product of our age. Added to this there is a mass of coded information travelling in the atmosphere due to the communications
industry. We are surrounded in a soup of unseen forms of language and he feels it important that we are aware of them.
