Really strange. There were no changes to the shell or the serial port setup. Could you please try the older versions of the shell too? Or try another terminal, even a simple one like screen may be helpful. I don't have access to a mac, so I cannot reproduce your setup. On linux (ubuntu 15.04, amd64) everything works well.
