Re " The reason of your particular problem might be the old plugin (1.4.1) that I have pointed out to you in my regular support response (if you checked your inbox you should find my true SUPPORT reply sent via normal support channel).", you may be thinking of someone else; no msg from you to me or my Spam folder mentioned the plugin problem.
Re the plugin: -my new install of 4.79 via 4.70 full, has the 1.4.0 plugin. -my inoperable 4.80, which was installed over 4.79, had the 1.4.1 plugin. -replacing 1.4.1 by 1.4.0 heals 4.80's ills and I can even confirm that the chm is 8.0. As might be expected, replacing the new 4.79's 1.4.0 by 1.4.1 DOES NO HARM. Hard to reconcile with "Changes between 4.79.0 and 4.80.0 are cosmetic and do not affect anything". You apparently did not bother to read entire post again... if your read it you would notice that 4.80 is coming with UPDATED help file (that you haven't even check but claimed otherwise in your original post), so "cosmetic" changes referred to the broker.exe executable, not the whole package. As to "is this response to my support post?" - the answer is NO, because I am not doing support on the list (as I mentioned lots of times), but you have choosen to start this thread here so I just provided a few facts about new version. Updated numbers for today is 1700+ downloads and installations, and no new reports about any crashes, so failure rate is now 0.17% The reason of your particular problem might be the old plugin (1.4.1) that I have pointed out to you in my regular support response (if you checked your inbox you should find my true SUPPORT reply sent via normal support channel). For your information: there is an official version released today: 4.80.1 Best regards, Tomasz Janeczko amibroker.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Bob Jagow To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, April 14, 2006 8:02 PM Subject: RE: [amibroker] AB 4.80.0RC1 Problems? Is this is your response to my support post? Since "Changes between 4.79.0 and 4.80.0 are cosmetic and do not affect anything", I'll work on getting 4.79 repaired. Thanks anyway. Importance: High Hello, Facts are as follows: During last 2 days AmiBroker 4.80 has been downloaded (and as I expect installed) 837 times. Only 3 people experienced any crash (from reports we received) That's 0.36% of installed base. This very low rate shows that these are local problems that could be resolved by checking hardware stability and eventual re-installing of the software. Changes between 4.79.0 and 4.80.0 are cosmetic and do not affect anything. The only real issue with 4.80.0 is the fact that Easy alerts under some circumstances fail to start working. But this will be fixed in 4.80.1 So there will be _no_ RC2 as 4.80.0 has proved to be very stable (99.6% installations without problems) and 4.80.1 will be released as official version with only one fix to Easy alerts. As for "No point IMO to get too serious about 4.80 before the Help files surface." This comment is completely off-base as Help file IS UPDATED ALREADY (the comment just proves that you did not even bother to press F1 key). My problems with 4.80 weren't identical to yours, but there were several crashes. Forwarded details to support and installed 4.70 then 4.79 in a new directory. May try reinstalling 4.80RC1 over the misbehaving instance if RC2 doesn't show by Monday. No point IMO to get too serious about 4.80 before the Help files surface. Thanks for your feedback. AB 4.80.0RC1 initally worked fine for me (with TC2005) after it was first upgraded yesterday from 4.79. Today, though, I did have a problem in that AB would begin to start up, then the program would suddenly stop and disappear from the screen. I'd do a double click on the AB shortcut icon to try to run it again, but with the same result of an aborted startup.. In my case, I thought it may have been because last night I'd done a disk defragment and then an incremental disk backup. Figured maybe something got corrupted by the operations or how I did them, or ... whatever. Anyway, I restored my AB folder today using an earlier disk backup of AB 4.79, which then seemed to run OK. That is, it ran normally and could get TC2005 EOD data, etc. My final step, done tonight, was to reinstall/upgrade to AB 4.80 again using AmiBroker480up.exe. So far, all seems to be normal once more and I can access my TC2k database. (EOD data is up to date, as of today's 4/13 market close). Don't know if this helps any, but perhaps there is something more going on that's causing problems between AB and TC2005 (and maybe some other program(s)?).
