A continuous chart should only show you the prices of the
contract you're currently trading.

It sounds like you're getting free data somewhere. If this is the case I suspect the contracts are not being back-adjusted so you just have the actual data with a hiccup in price at each contract rollover. So, I would not overwrite, unless you know you are getting back-adjusted data in which case you would have to over-write. -- Terry -----Original
