using the Notes files. There is one text file for each security. You
can use Excel to select and format the data into a complete csv file
for all the securities you are using, but then you will need to write
out individual files for each security in text format. This is tedious
to do with Excel, but a simple custom program can be developed to do
it (requiring some programming knowhow).
Retrieving the data from the Notes files is very simple in afl. I
store about 8 fields of data related to external rankings and
portfolio positions. Using StrExtract makes it easy to access the
individual fields.
