I have internet phone service*. No perceived problems. Maximum bandwidth of a voice call is 64 Kbps. They all run with compression so they only use ~8-16 Kbps. Your cable modem should have 2 Mbps or better.   PS: The phone company likes to point out that this 2 Mb is shared bandwidth, but the actual bandwidth of a cable modem was 57 Mbps 5 years ago.
