Hello, I would not say that new Core 2 is "running circles around all AMDs", but it is certainly faster, there are lots of independent reviews, for example this one: http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/08/02/thg_tuning_test/
Whenever you choose one or another is a question of whenever you want to pay extra bucks for brand new top Core 2 model to gain 20...30% of performance. One thing is for sure: if you are going to buy Intel you should forget about all their old models (Pentium D/EE). Core 2 is the only worthwhile offering from Intel.
