I actually 
meant the draw menu, but yes it I'd tried that [and checking/unchecking 
matters not].
 
I think the 
actual problem may have been that I moved the draw menu off-screen while still 
in the Tools|Customize screen.
That's 
probably curable by deleting  TJP  toolbar settings in the 
registry, with a reinstall of 4.84  the 
fallback.
 
For the moment, I've added the crucial Draw buttons to 
another toolbar.
