My comments were aimed at when you want to sort the symbol values within the base AFL code, not for normal scoring as in portfolio backtest

Thanks, Tomasz.  It's my own deficiency in implementing AFL that is the problem – not Amibroker.  Thanks for the advice.

AmiBroker is doing already the same during portfolio backtest.

Read about PositionScore and ranking in the User's Guide

Now with custom backtester interface you can retrieve those ranks using GetFirstSignal/GetNextSignal(),

faster, cheaper and does not require any 3rd party costly tools.

You should already have learned that there are no impossible things in AmiBroker.

The Spyglass plug in creates separate files for each security within a few minutes in Metastock.  The subsequent Exploration then requires about 10 minutes to process nearly 8000 stocks.  It really does work surprisingly well.  Please understand that I am not a programmer and have no idea why it is so fast.  I can only say that the strongest stocks from the strongest industries certainly have very pretty charts.  The plug in has several other very nice features as well.  I would certainly like to see the developer and Thomas get together on this.

With kind regards,

Fred

yes it does become a resources hog as each symbol must be compared to all the symbols in the group
if you have 8,000 then the total usage 8000 loop calculations each for 8,000 symbols =  is 64,000,000
Can really slow down the running

I would think this would be a huge resource hog -- to calculate and then rank a value against 8000+ stocks for each period shown on a chart?  Even with a very shaky assumption that all of the data used in the computation had already been downloaded for each of those 8000+ stocks!
