You can use any index.

The assumption is that if the markets were open then the idexes will 
have data for that day; they are not subject to the comings and 
goings of ordinary stock so they are the benchmark for the expected 
number of daily bars per year (God help the intraday traders!).

Another thing you can do is add cum(1) to a column in explorer and 
it will give you the barcount for each symbol.
We can calculate trading days in a year if we know the public 
holidays so we know how many bars to expect for a given date range.

You can also plot barcount and barindex() for fun and see what they 
do.
