Fred: you are absolutely right. And I have no intention of writing a book. However, one who considers it has to value their time (as well as the factors you mention) to determine if the effort "pays off", whether in monetary terms or otherwise. Not everyone can nor should apply your altruistic yardstick to the decision of how to spend ones time. I would venture to say that were you 20 or more years younger (with the same skills), you might have approached differently the decision on whether to make IO free or even do it.
