Don,

You place a very negative connotation on bureaucracies; unfairly so.

Energy without form is chaos.
Form without energy is death.
It's a *question of balance* (thanks to the Moody Blues!).

Having a folder hierarchy for 20GB of disc space hardly consitutes a 
bureaucracy.
It is the norm on every computer I have ever seen.

The virtual freedom that we love so much would not exist without 
computer architecture, bureaucratic Universities that train our 
technicians, electricity grids etc etc.
