Hello - I sent this out before I joined the group, so I don't think it will make it the first time, I'll send it out again now.
I looked into this with Tomasz, the dead ticker issue has been resolved with the latest QP plugin, just check the Exclude symbols without quotes box, the issue status code is now obsolete, it's left over from a previous data vendor. I have just set the issue status code to 0 for all issues, the next time you download you will get the corrections, so the setting of that check box will have no effect. There were a few mutual funds that had a wrong issue type, those were corrected as well. A file containing money market mutual fund prices was sent out by mistake last week, those have been deleted. That file accounted for the 3,000 dead tickers in the mutual fund database. Please let me know if anything else doesn't look right. There are still over 3000 dead tickers ( mostly MF's now, I remember Dan Clark working with Gary in the past to get most of the dead stocks removed ). Tickers are classified incorrectly with regard to type of issue ( for one example, run an exploration on the MF group with "Filter = Volume > 0" and you will see some ETF's and stocks classified as MF's ). Tickers are also classified incorrectly with regard to trading status, which is what caused Ken's problem. There is no good solution other than a massive effort on QP's part to clean things up, which I don't hold out much hope for. TJ has tried several times in the past to patch the "dead ticker" issue on his end, but it cannot really work properly as long as so many tickers are classified incorrectly in QP's DB. As things stand now, there are basically 2 options: > > 1. You can check either/both boxes at the bottom of the plugin Configuration box - this will eliminate most of the dead tickers from AB, but it will also eliminate some valid tickers because they are misclassified as non-trading, etc. How many? Which ones? I have no idea, but it always bothered me to know that, when I am exploring for good stocks that meet some criteria or another, I could very well be missing some of the better ones because they were misclassified and not retrieved by AB. > > 2. So I always choose this 2nd option instead - uncheck both boxes and just download all tickers including the dead ones. Then at least you know you have *all* the tickers, and at that point you can either just live with a bloated DB or you can delete the dead ones via Database Cleanup. > > I can think of a couple of possibilities why you have ERH with the box checked... > > 1. ONCE I KEYED IN THE QUESTION, I RTFM and there are the status codes. Lots of them. In my database configuration I've got retrieve only active symbols (status code =0) BUT I was getting ERH anyway? Another puzzle. What are options do you have ticked off in your database configuration? > > Regards > JOE > > a.. "IssueStatus" - (string) - with default settings all symbols should have issue status = 0 other possible values: 0 = actively trading; 1, P = trading on a when issued basis, 5, 6, 7, A, B, C, D, E, M = not trading 4, N = new symbol, G, K, X, R, Z = changes to symbol, cusip, name, etc. - requires QP plugin 1.5.1 > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Steve Dugas > To: [email protected] > Sent: Wednesday, September 27, 2006 1:15 PM > Subject: Re: [amibroker] Quotes Plus Mutual Funds in AB > > > Hi Ken - I can see it in AB. QP still has a number of tickers that are "misclassified". To get around this, when I do a retreive I uncheck both of the bottom boxes in the Configure dialog so the plugin will retrieve all tickers, then I run Cleanup Database on the Tools menu to delete all the dead ones. > > Steve > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Ken Close > To: [email protected] > Sent: Wednesday, September 27, 2006 1:38 PM > Subject: [amibroker] Quotes Plus Mutual Funds in AB > > > I am a new user of Quotes Plus to drive data to AB (vs TC2000) and I have been doing ok with the transition. > > I just now retrieved all of the mutual funds I have been downloading, and can use them just like any stock symbol. > > There is an interesting closed end fund named ERH (Evergreen) which is in the QP database (I can plot it using the QP charting program), but Amibroker can not see it. > > Any QP data users here who could see whether you can see/plot ERH in Amibroker from the QP database?
