File backup/sync tools are not replacement for Drive imaging tools especially for system partition, though it is sufficient for data partition. I have not tried SyncToy, instead, have been using something call SecondCopy for the last five years. You can do one way backup, sync, exact copy, compression/encryption etc. and it has never failed me.
