Ed, Being an AmiBroker user and Dakota's author, I can clearly say they are complimentary. Dakota is not an optimizer, so Fred's work fits in the grand scheme too. Dakota isn't at all like AmiBroker. While AmiBroker is a great trading system package, Dakota is principally a walk-forward adaptive "signal generator" and numerous happy customers use both. You can use Dakota's signals in AmiBroker as indicators, and thus in your trading systems.
