No, I don't think you have ticker bar visible. It must not be removed. 
F4 brings the focus to ticker box, so you can type the symbol. If you deleted 
it, it won't work.
Some people remove the ticker bar (customize the toolbar by deleting many 
useful stuff).

    As Bob pointed out for the F4 to work you have to have "Ticker" 
    toolbar checked (active). One this tool bar is active pressing F4 
    takes you to ticker dialog box.
