As an aside; Many have adopted the following plain text patterns for emphasis, some of which are automatically recognized by HTML readers and converted into their equivalent HTML markup:
_italic text_ *bold text* Presumably this is based on historical lightweight markup: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightweight_markup_language Capital letters are pretty universally recognized as shouting, so the above might help soften the tone accross cultures and language barriers.
