I've had similar issues with templates. As a precaution, whenever I make a
change to a layout, I specifically save the template to a named file.
Reloading it in case of a problem always works..

I have had problems with templates and layouts changing. I'm pretty sure this
has something to do with conflicts between layuouts in different databases, but
I have never figured it out. I've tried to keep templates/layouts separated
by database, but somehow there are still overlaps with formulas. This can be
quite frustrating when many hours of chart design are wiped out.

Maybe someday I'll figure out how to keep them all separated.

I had a similar problem a long time ago, discovered that it was due to using
many different characters in the param names that are displayed in the
params dialog. Renamimg all params using just letters and numbers solved the
problem. If you think this might apply to you, you may want to correct it in
*all* your codes as it seemed to me at the time that one such occurance was
enough to corrupt the broker.params file.
