TJ,

Thanks for the help! Problem solved. It was operator error,, as is usual
in these cases.

a) the CMAE dll was there

b) it was loaded

c) the progress window showed Engine cmae.

The problem was that I had All symbols selected instead of current symbol.
Makes a big difference in time required.

Btw, I am pleased with the Vista performance so far. Plan to turn off UAC
to avoid the nagging. I believe it is time to switch over to Vista from XP.

Thanks again for your help.

Hello,

You may need to check if
a) CMAE.dll is present in the "Plugins" subfolder (Vista may not allow you
to place files in "Program files" under UAC)

b) go to Tools->Plugins and verify if CMAE is actually loaded.

c) check if Progress Window during optimization really shows Engine: cmae

TJ,

My statement of the problem was a bit misleading. I am only using CMAE in
my code. I am not using Fred's IO at all.. I don't even have Fred's IO on
my computer. I was using the term IO to indicate the function of the built
in CMAE engine which is called with: OptimizerSetEngine( "cmae" ); in the
first line of code.

But the problem is that the CMAE engine runs like gangbusters using XP but
the CMAE engine in my installation does not run on Vista. And that is using
identical AB code in each case, and the identical AB 5.18.0.

So where is the culprit?

Thanks,

Grover Yowell

You simply use either CMAE (which is AB's built-in intelligent,
non-exhaustive optimizer by itself)
OR
Fred's IO (external).

Not both. Never ever mix them or you will end up with totally unreliable
results.
It's like trying to mount eight wheels to bicycle each going into different
direction.
