Ron, Sorry for the late answer - noticed your question but my attention went elsewhere.
I tried Yahoo RT a while ago - I think I posted under Yahoo RT. Yes, you can use it with AB. It is eminently suitable for your use i.e. to finesse entries and exits for longer term trading provided you are only interested in the major stocks (from memory RT only covers the S&P500 or something like it). > I assume that I should set up a separate yahoo database for the >Yahoo realtime data. Yes, definitely, Minimum granularity is 1 minute for GUI users .... once you have enough 1 minute bars then you can change to viewing higher timeframes.... 1 minute is only an approx 'snapshot' so a 1 minute plot will be 'smoothed' compared to tick data but once you change to, day 5 or 10 min view the slight error will not impact your ability to pick and entry for weekly or longer trades (the 'error' will be a very small % of 'real' prices except for the very rare extreme price moves). >If my Yahoo realtime Database has 5000 tickers in it, will this NEW >YAHOO REALTIME DATABASE become VERY LARGE quickly? I don't think Yahoo RT supports 5000 tickers but if it did it shouldn't be a problem for you ... everyday people are using RT databases with more frequent datapoints than one minute and histories going back 6 months or more.... size is not an issue ;-) ... hard drive space is the least of our worries these days. When you set up your 1 min RT database you can see the memory required for X bars in tne AB database settings window.... this will approx your memory useage .... I can't remember if Yahoo RT has OHLC or just on value ... if only one value then you have one datapoint compared to 4 or more for my eSignal RT. Note that 1 min Yahoo RT will only plot as a single value (no OHLC bar until you change to a higher timeframe) For your useage a few days of history is probably all you need so you can dump your database every so often and start again (typically I only need, say, day 10 days RT history to trade on and only use more if backtesting) > Also, can I tell Yahoo to send me this realtime data every 5 >minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, and so on? > As a computer layperson I couldn't get to the bottom of it 100% and since the info wasn't easy to come by I settled on 1 minute as the minimum available ... this is not a restriction from Yahoo's end AFAIK but is limited by AmiQuotes 1 minute minimum refresh (perhaps programmers can work around this limit)..... ... have a look at my previous post for the AQ -> AB method. brian_z --- In [email protected], Ronald Davis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > I am using Amibroker version 5.00.1 dated Nov 12, 2007. > > I make all of my buy and sell decisions using setups that appear in my charts from my Yahoo Free EOD data. > > I now I want to start using the paid subscription Yahoo realtime data in order to fine tune my entrys into the YAHOO EOD DATA buy and sell decisions.>> http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/finance/quotes/quote- 63.html > > When I click on AMIBROKER>VIEW>REALTIME, I only see two folders, Local Layouts, and Global Layouts.
