Ken Have emailed you the files. Having read what Steve has suggested I remember that I tortured the data in many different ways in order to find a better way. Instead of the Sum() component I tried ema's and wma's and every type of ma or TA calculation I could think of. Instead of C>=ref(C,-1) and C<=ref (C,-1) I tried substituting H and L, I tried AVG, I tried the nos of advancing and declining stocks in the index, I tried every damn thing I could think of, and still do occaisionally. I haven't yet found an improvement to the current formula and would welcome suggestions.
