You are correct. I just observed the same thing. I can see the
embedded image in received email (using Thunderbird), but not on online.
BTW, I just went back and double checked the posting in Google groups.
The image is embedded when viewed as email. However, online the image
is shown as a small thumbnail right next to a link to a full size .jpg file.
BTW2, I rarely view postings online, just about always us email. Today
was the first time I looked at the Google postings online, just to see
how embedded images were handled (see BTW above). I do not like the way
Google organizes all messages by subject, and you *must* drill down
through the subject to find recent messages. I much prefer to see all
messages in chronological order.
BTW3, I never received, as email, my January 1, 2009, 11:47pm, message
#133515. Also I made a posting to [email protected] on January
3, 2009, 4:46pm which has not yet been displayed online, nor have I
received it as email.
