As a follow up to this:

I have found that the issue was not the change of machine or OS, but the 
addition of displaying several charts/symbols at one time on the new machine 
while running the process mentioned.

In order to work around the problem I now set a global layout called "No 
Charts" which closes all charts. I then run the procedure. I have not 
experienced any problems since.
